“My goal is to continue to work in nonprofit at the institutional level. I love waking up everyday knowing I am a small part of helping young people receive the highest form of education. Marian University was and is the greatest gift I have ever received. I want to pass that gift on.”

Johns, home-schooled during grade school and high school, remembers the difficult transition as a freshman. Before long she was thriving and involved with many campus activities. “Marian University’s environment encourages the underdogs to step up and lead. I love that. This place brings together such a diverse group of people and encourages positive relationships between faculty and staff with the students. They see our strengths before they are realized. Dr. George LaMaster encouraged me to join the speech team my freshman year. That was something I never thought I could do, but he believed in me.” Johns was a member of the speech team for four years, served as junior class president, and then senior class president. She was a member of the 2010 state champion speech team, received the John Sweeney Maid of Marian Award in 2011, and gave the 2011 Senior Class Commencement Address.

Caitlin Johns has been a member of the Marian University community since infancy. Her parents are both alumni, married during her father’s senior year. As a baby, Johns even attended her father’s graduation and played on campus as a child. When it came time to choose a college, Marian University was an obvious choice and Johns realized she couldn’t have gone anywhere else. “There were so many memories here and so many people, like the Sisters, that I already knew. Marian University just felt like home.”

Johns is currently working in the Office of Advancement at Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory School and coaches the school’s speech team. She will attend graduate school at IUPUI to work towards a master’s degree in public administration with a concentration in non-profit management.
